Ford Announces Release of New… uh, Coffee Cup?

The 2012 Consumer Electronics Show officially kicked off this morning and the buzz machines are at full tilt spreading the word of the amazing technological innovations that are being unveiled.

One particular bit of technology that we here at Stick to Driving are fans of is Ford’s Sync system, which allows a variety of hands-free, voice activated options for mobile device use in cars.  It’s amazingly simple, extremely functional, and is a great tool to keep drivers’ eyes and attention on the road rather than their phone.  And in keeping it fresh, Ford continues to update Sync with increased device compatibility and new features.  Their latest feature, just announced at CES, is the first of five promised smartphone Apps; it allows users to send map routes directly from their phone to their Sync’s voice activated navigation system, rather than using a PC as was required before.

Despite the continued innovation and addition of cool new features, however, it looks like Ford (and just about every other car manufacturer, for that matter) has missed one little detail:

Ford's new, uh, coffee cup?

That’s right, they forgot to give you a place to put your phone while their sleek vehicle system so seamlessly communicates with it.  But not to worry because as with most problems, there is a solution.  Clingo’s Hands Free Mobile Mount and Hands Free Vent Mount do a great job of putting your phone in a secure location, while leaving your cup holders free for things in life that really matter… like coffee.
